Somatics is the study of the mind-body connection, exploring how sensations, movements, and emotions interconnect. It involves practices that foster awareness and healing by nurturing a deeper connection with oneself and supporting the body's innate capacity for transformation and growth.

Norah offers various somatic modalities tailored to support specific needs and circumstances.

About Somatic Experiencing®

Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a body-based, naturalistic approach to healing overwhelm in the nervous system and accessing the body’s wisdom.

  • Somatic Experiencing® is a gentle, integrative, and collaborative process that teaches us the language of our bodies, equips us with tools for self-regulation, and helps restore balance in our nervous system. This approach cultivates a deeper connection between our emotional and physical selves, nurturing a profound sense of being fully present in our bodies.

Founded by Dr. Peter Levine, who through decades of research and study, developed this method as a way of restoring balance to the nervous system following any life experience that overwhelms a person's system and addresses the resulting stress of trauma accumulated in the body.

Somatic Experiencing is a form of Somatic Therapy, distinct from conventional psychotherapy. The skills learned in SE serve as a valuable resource for professionals across different fields, parents, and individuals seeking to both embrace and support a more embodied way of living.

I provide personal Somatic Experiencing sessions for SE students, healthcare professionals, and those interested in nurturing a life of embodiment.

  • During sessions, you have the freedom to sit, stand, or lie down to create a space where you can tune into the sensations in your body as they emerge. Typically, sessions start seated and may transition to table work and/or exploring movement & sound while maintaining a therapeutic dialogue.

In this collaborative journey, both the SE practitioner and your body's wisdom work together as guides. Giving unresolved life experiences the opportunity to gently progress through the nervous system facilitating the release, resolution, and completion of what may have been interrupted or missing during an overwhelming event or period of time.

Sessions centre around building resources, establishing a sense of safety, and helping you connect with your body as a trusted ally and guide.

If you're new to Somatic Experiencing, we will also develop a common language for effective collaboration.

Somatic Modalities we can integrate

  • Support deep healing by sensing how the freedom of your movement reveals itself through you and in you.

Working with gentle movement and mindful awareness of bodily sensations to alleviate tension patterns and enhance the flow of bodily fluids and vital energy, such as lymph, blood, fascia, nerves, organs, muscles, bones, and cells, which become restricted in response to stress.

I integrate supportive somatic movement & posture techniques from the practices of Continuum and Yoga to help foster a home practice and a felt sense of being present and at ease in one’s body.

  • Engaging in active listening, intentional breathing, and mindful awareness of bodily sensations, individuals can tap into the powerful healing vibrations that enhance and sustain their overall well-being.

I utilize a variety of instruments in my Sound Therapy practice, including crystal bowls, gongs, tuning forks, chimes, and vocal techniques.

Integrating vocal techniques from the practices of Continuum and Yoga to help foster a home practice and a felt sense of being present and at ease in one's body.

  • Touch is a powerful tool for nurturing the mind and body, whether administered by a skilled practitioner or practiced as self-care. Incorporating touch into your sessions offers a range of benefits. I integrate and/or guide techniques such as Craniosacral and myofascial unwinding to support your somatic well-being, promoting relaxation and holistic healing.

  • Yoga is a scientific system of self-investigation, self-transformation, and self-realization that originated in India.

I integrate gentle breathwork, movement, meditation, mantra and sensory awareness practices to facilitate a connection with the inherent energy within our bodies, offering a pathway towards understanding and embracing the body as a gateway to expanded consciousness.

Optimize your comfort, support, & freedom of movement.

During any session, you can work with a variety of props to optimize your comfort, support, and freedom of movement.

The props I provide in the practice space are bolsters, cushions, support slings, balls, blankets, eye coverings, a massage table, and a yoga wall.

Sessions can be done laying down, seated or standing.

Leave feeling more attuned to your body, deeply grounded in your sovereignty, and open to new possibilities for inhabiting your body and expressing yourself through them.

If you are seeking to include your sessions as part of your SE training requirements, Norah offers accreditation as a session provider at the beginner level.
